Default New Bonneville Owner - NY

My name is John I'm in Orange County, NY and I just picked up a clean 97 Bonneville SE with 80K miles on it. It'* basically going to be a commuter car so it'* not getting much done in the way of mods. Better head lights, fix the upper and lower intake issues, give it a tune up, and probably install a kit to firm up the shifts like I read about in the how-to section on here just to keep the trans happy and healthy.

Welcome John, looks like you snagged a nice Bonneville and have a plan of attack to give you many trouble free miles!

Thanks. Just realized that how-to article is for the 4T65 and not my 4T60. Guess a trans service will have to do for now.

Welcome to the forums John.
Very nice car, looks like it is in great shape, like the color too!
Finding a 97 with 80k is awesome.
Everything you mentioned you want to do, I have completed on my Pk Ave.
Don't forget the spark plugs, wires, & fuel filter. That will make the Bonny happy as well.
Use Dexron VI for your transmission, I thought in 97 they went to 4T65E?

Thank you. I've got new air, fuel, PCV, plugs, and wires all here and all AC Delco. Also a Stant 180* stat.

Planning on getting the Dex IV and a trans filter as well.

I'll have to research more on which trans is in there. I've read they went to the 65 in 98 but I've also read they phased it in on some 97 models. I'm assuming it'd be the late build ones that are most likely to have it. Mine was built 4/97 so it'* a relatively late build. Maybe I got lucky for once. LOL!

Wow, a Y40 edition. Not too many of those floating around. I highly suggest you take care of this one and hold on to her for a long time. Or stuff her in the basement.

Thanks Mike. I'll take good care of her. I unplugged the DTS resistor today in preparation for the HID'* I have coming. Gave it a quick underhood clean up the other day. It was pretty clean to begin with, just a lot of dust and grime. In my rush to clean it I forgot to take a before picture. Even with the mushy FE1 suspension I'm enjoying driving it a lot more than any of my last 3 commuters. It'* nice to have a car that actually goes when you step on the gas pedal again.

Ya might as well take that cover off and throw it in the corner of the garage. Think of it as a blanket for a heat temperamental intake plenum.
