Question New Member GM part number help

Hello Everyone,

My name is Mike Poteet. I have a number of GM vehicles including 93 Pontiac, 86 Fiero (68K origional) 2003 Duramax Dually and a couple of 60'* Novas.

What brings me here is I have a pair of new rear GM struts that I'm trying to identify. My local dealer hasn't been able to figure them out. I've purchased them in an auction with a number of parts from a closed GM dealership. I'd like to sell them and I believe I know what they are but would like to be sure.

The part number on them is 22189459 . I know the number must have been superceded as the partsman I have spoke with cannot find the info on his computer. There is another piece of paper taped to one of them which is 22196792 written on it in marker with the group number on it. That number of course is an early 90'* passive strut replacement number for the rears of most full size Caddilac, Pontiacs and Buicks. They do appear to be that part. The problem comes in when I had them run the superceded part number history for the 22196792 number. At no point is the origional number which is stamped and tagged on the strut listed in that history. The place I would expect to find that info would likely be a written catalogue from that time period or a partsman with a little more persistence then mine. If anyone has this type of availablilty it would sure be appreciated. Thank you and this looks like a great GM site

Mike

Hmm, I must have reversed the numbers on my note paper. Do you show any info for the 22196792 ? The info you posted was the same I was able to find for the number that was written in marker so I must have crossed them up. ( its on a sticky noe right now, the strut is at work )

thanks for your quick reply

Thanks for looking, thats what I've been running in to. They dont show on all the GM parts sites that I have found, on Google or any other web search engine yet they do exist.. Got to love the hunt I guess.

thanks again

Welcome to GM Forum! You figured out that mystery, but stay a while.

If you don't need those struts, you can probably post them up in the For Sale or For Trade sections.

Thanks for the note and they are for sale. Honestly not closer to verifying what they fit. I had my numbers crossed and the 22196792 # is the one on the parts label. It is long since discontinued. thanks again and I think I will follow up on that offer.
