New Iowa guy - '93 SE (throwing code 21)
I'm new to this forum. Just bought my daughter a '93 Bonneville SE. My wife and I had a new 1990 SE that was loaded to the hilt when we first got married. I've always missed that car.
'93 has around 120,000 on the clock. In great shape, rides great, drives great. Check Engine light just started coming on. Throwing a 21 code. I cleaned the MAF sensor last night (it was dirty), and replaced the air filter. Light went off for about 2 seconds then came back on as has been on ever since.
I'm planning on giving the MAF sensor the "tap" test tonight. I'm hoping a replacement is all it needs...any other tips? I've done a few searches on the tech forum and it seems like I'm on the right track...

welcome to the club...
The Code 21 is a TPS issue iirc...
Search Tech info you should find a code listing for the 92-93

Thanks for the correction regaring the TPS. I'm not used to working on cars with "brains"! My 1970 Chevelle ragtop only needs fuel, air, and spark to run!! Working on cars these days is a challenge with all the electronics they have incorporated!
Looks like I have the info I need....back to my shop tonight for another looksee.

IowaGuy, you'll be pleased to know that one of the club'* best troubleshooting gearheads is located just up I35 in Ames. If you're having problems with a Bonneville (or any vehicle for that matter) you've got help nearby. Look up member name "bill buttermore" and send him a PM... he'* usually game for meeting up with other members.

I agree... bill buttermore is a good guy..
Just be careful around here... We have Bill, Bill and Bill
The 87-95 Bonnies aren't too bad electronics wise.. They get far more complicated in 1996, a little more in 1997 and I think a step further in 2000....lol
Is this Bonneville Loaded? wondering what options it has..

This one is pretty much stripped of options. That is ok. She is only 14 (getting a school permit).
My wife has already been threatening to take the Bonneville over and ditch her 2005 Impala SS.
Our 90 Bonneville SE that we bought new in 1990 was loaded with just about everything you could get. Navy blue with navy blue buckets. That was a NICE car! I'm 6'4" so I like the headroom and leg room. Way better than the wife'* Impala SS we have now and I can't afford to drive my '99 Chevy K2500 crew cab (454cid = very thirsty!). I drive a 99 S10 4 banger for my daily driver. Then there is the 1970 SS 454 Chevelle convertible for pleasure drives (and I thought my crew cab was thirsty!!!)

Being a 1993, If you have the time and are there...
Have a lok at the RPO service list on the spare tire cover..
It will have L27 for the Tuned Port 3800 V6
It will have the M13 Transmission ( 4T60-E )
It could either have the F17 2.84 gear ratio ( Fuel economy ratio ) or
a more performance minded FW2 3.06 Ratio
In good tune the 93 could do from 19-22 in town and 28-34 on the road depending on the gear ratio.. we have had the guys with the 2.84 ratio do as much as 34..
I actually pulled 31 in my Series II 3800 with a 3800 V6 in the trunk will all of my other junk, back seat was full up too, with the AC on and I was speeding a bit too... And still pulled down a 31, and I have the 3.06 ratio
BTW... The 89-91 SE and SSE have a place in my heart... I just love them
