Default Just bought a 90 LE

I just bought a (blue) 1990 Bonneville LE less than a week ago, and I'm loving it .

I just wanted to stick my head in and say hello! This car is incredible, it rides great, and I'm doubting the 165hp rating, because this thing absolutely flies.

Looks exactly like mine, but mine is dark blue . I love the way that era of Bonnevilles look, my dad says looking at it from the front reminds him of a shark.

We actually own two Bonnevilles. I'm 18, and just got mine, as I said, but my parents have had a dark blue 1990 LE for the past 6 or 7 years. I learned to drive on it, and loved the way it felt, so when my old car (a 1986 Mercury Lynx) started acting crazy, I hunted one down.

It'* wild to see two identical cars sitting side by side in the driveway .

I appreciate the welcome, everyone. It'* great to have a community that'* not filled with raving idiots and ricers.

I just noticed I posted this in the wrong place. Sorry!

I'll definitely post some pics of them side by side soon. Got to borrow a digital camera .

I also need to post some pictures of the paint job I just did.

Mine had some fading paint on the roof, and I decided to see how well I could rattle-can it, until I have the cash to get the entire car painted. I wet sanded the area on the roof down with 800 grit sandpaper. until I was down to the original primer. Then I masked off the area the ghetto way with some masking tape and newspaper, and tried my best to seal everything up to shield from the overspray.

I laid down about 5 coats of paint, feathering out to the unscathed paint as best I could. I let it dry for 48 hours, and then wet-sanded it with 1000 grit sandpaper, and then 1500 grit paper. Then I took a polishing compound, and used it on the entire roof to kind of blend the edges together and make it shiny and smooth. After a good coat of wax, it'* got a mirror shine. and is smoother than the factory paint, even.

I opted to not go with a clear coat, because I would have ended up having to clear coat the entire roof to make it not look bad, and then I would have had clear-coat lines on the pillars. I figure if I keep it waxed, it'll last without fading long enough for me to get the money I need to get the whole car painted.

Overall, it looks pretty good. If you get right up on it, you can see the slight color difference in the factory paint and the paint I used. I figure this is because the factory paint has had 14 years to sit in the sun and fade a little . It'* as smooth and shiny as the rest of the car, though, maybe even a little bit better looking. Pretty good for the whole $20 I invested in the project.

Next up is a spot on the hood, and a tiny spot on the trunk lid.
