Newbie Bonneville SE Owner says Hello
Hello Group. Owner of a black 97 SE, currently awaiting transplant of a new motor (already obtained). The old motor fell prey to the dreaded upper intake manifold disease and was repaired under a used vehicle warranty. Unfortunately, the antifreeze had made its' way into the bottom end, and the bearings went out 3 weeks later. Antifreeze & babbitt don't play well together!!
My other "daily use" vehicle is a 2001 International, stretched to a 300" w/b with added 20,000# lift axle, and converted to a 4 axle retractable-tarp straight truck, used primarily for hauling 35,000# molds & stamping dies for the auto industry. Have criscrossed 48 states & 10 provinces in the last 27 years trucking. I've got a very good tour guide!
My engine transplant will start this week, can photograph the op if anyone'* interested.
My next project, after this engine swap, will be trying to shoehorn the International'* 500 HP Detroit Series 60 engine into the Bonneville chassis.... The only thing holding me back at the moment is how to mount the 300 gallon fuel tanks...For that project, I may require SOME of the expertise of the forum members!!!
Later. Regards. Dave.

Welcome to the club.. we have had a series of engine failures...
So far I am lucky as abusive as I am.. And with the upper intake I must have caught it in time and I had just done a change with Synthetic oil...
I have run 80K since my intake rupture... Still running... * Knocks on wood *
The one downfall of the 3800 L36 is the lower gaskets and upper intake design...
I highly recommend no matter what L36 you get, Get the new aluminum lower intake gaskets to install on the motor..
