Default 97 gmc C1500 5.7v8 hazard light replacement

The story goes about a year ago my keys wouldn't turn the ignition. i thought it was bad so i went to replace it and tried to take the steering column sheath off which in the process broke off the hazard switch. naturally the whole issue was my key was worn down so here i am with a broken switch for no reason. At any rate i bought a part recently to finally fix it. its not the whole combination switch rather just the hazard button which is about three inches and slides right into the hole on top of the steering wheel column. Well i thought it would solve my lack of lights.. my turn signals work as does my night time running lights what doesnt work is the break lights, the reverse lights, as well as the hazard lights themselves. Im not sure where to start or what to do. i replaced all the bulbs but it still doesnt solve all the lighting problems.

someone help.. do i just need to bite the bullet and by a whole new turn signal switch assembly ?

Have you checked the fuses to make sure that one of them is not blown?

Keep in mind the rear brake light circuit goes through your turn signal switch.

Didn't GM have a recall with these multi-function switches?

the only thing that works is the turn signals. the hazards ( all lights fast blinking) the reverse lights and the break lights are the ones not working.. all bulbs work as when i put my nighttime lights on the all light up its just nothing happens when i break the reverse lights or the hazard lights. Some times i have to jiggle the new hazard lgiht replacement switch to get it to line up right so the blinkers work. which i thought since it was a new piece all i had to do was just slide it right in and everything work. so idk if this calls for just replacing the whole turnsignal switch.

ive checked the fuses and they appear to be working. again the lights all work ( except the reverse lights) they just dont blink for hazards or get brighter for breaks. the signals work front and back.

Do you have a multi-meter?
The other thing to check would be the brake light switch above the brake pedal, if you can get a wiring diagram you could verify it has a good ground, and that when you apply the brakes there is 12v coming from the wire that turns the brake lights on.
I am not sure why the reverse light is not working though, unless it is a maxi fuse under the hood, and they are both tied to that fuse.
If it is blown then you may have a wire grounding out somewhere causing it to blow, I wish I could be of more help, I will try to search for a diagram, not sure if I'll be able to find one though.
