I have a 2011 GMC ACADIA with 76104 miles on it, I am fanatical about routine maintenance yet last Friday July 22nd (my birthday) while running some errands the engine died on me after letting off the accelerator to slow down in city traffic I was doing the posted speed limit of 40mph, luckily I was able to coast to a convenience store parking lot where I tried to restart the engine, no luck I thought I might have a starter issue to later that day after having the car towed home I purchased a starter engine still would not turn over, I had car towed to a mechanics shop to have him look it over, he called the next day and said THE MOTOR IS LOCKED UP!!! Somebody tell me what is going on? I used all the recommended lubricants filters etc never missed an oil change this was a $37,000 vehicle when purchased new this is not supposed to happen and come to find out there are more and more of these engines with the same issues along with timing chains and such going bad I THINK YOU OWE ME A ENGINE GM

Has the mechanic determined the exact cause of failure, such as hydroloc, seized bearing, etc?

Thanks.for.the response jolly unfortunately it'* not just one spun bearing but 5, I am just completely dumb-founded how this happened as I said I am a maintenance fanatic it'* how I was raised, my dad was a maintenance officer as well as a dual rated Master Aviator in the Army, so properly maintaining equipment and vehicles was pounded into us from a very young age this is the 1st engine I have ever had lock up on me and I've been fooling with cars and engines of every kind for more than 44 of my 56 yrs I think this one is on GM (which by the way is the only vehicle I've ever owned you drive a ford or Dodge but you ride in a chevy)

It'* also entirely possible that the lifespan was limited from the start, and in anyone elses hands it would have failed in warranty.

Yea I know from what I have been reading there are alot of problems with the 3.6VVT my mechanic buddy call Moritz Chevrolet/GMC and talked to their svc department mgr he said they are getting the Cadillac cts in as well as the equinox for timing chain related breakdowns among other things said it'* a real problem child for GM (can you say class action?)

a big issue with the 3.6 is oil consumption

these engines burn oil, and oil levels need to be checked between oil changes

alot of folks, think, I have a new car, I dont need to check the oil level...not true on the 3.6

if you keep it full, it will run a very long time

in my experance, they usually burn 1 quart per 1000 miles

so if you run 5000 miles between changes, your running it out of oil

I have often read about the necessity-pro/con of buying an extended warranty when purchasing a new vehicle. I have always admired their looks and have owned many GM vehicles, but alas, I will always have trust issues with them as well. I have NEVER had a GM vehicle that left me totally satisfied from a reliability standpoint. Ahhh such is love...
