2010 GMC Yukon XL Lurched during stop and Revved without foot on pedal!!!
Hi,
My wife has a 2010 GMC Yukon XL with 31,000 miles on it. She was stopped at a stop light today, and the vehicle suddenly lurched forward and the engine revved to high RPMs without her foot touching the gas pedal.
She applied full pressure to the brake pedal and barely kept the vehicle from hitting the car in front of her. She put it in park and turned off the ignition.
She started it back up, and the engine light was one and the whole car was shaking. She couldn't go over 5 MPH. Fortunately she was near a parking lot so she pulled in and we called tow truck.
Has anyone heard or experienced anything like this? When I got there, about 1 1/2 hours after it happened, I started the vehicle and was able to drive it around the parking lot without any issues, but the engine light was still on. We didn't want to risk driving it the 30 miles home, so we had the tow truck take it to the GM Dealership to have it looked at Monday.
I'm very concerned about this. If my 16 year old would have been driving instead of my wife, I doubt she would have been able to keep the vehicle from hitting the one in front of her!

I think the 2010'* have fly by wire. They dont have a cable for the throttle. Possible a sensor went bad or something. The code it set will probly tell alot.

Yeah but most of the toyotas were actually people stacking floormates and the pedal sticking when pressed. I work for toyota and the recall has us cutting the pedals to help keep that from happening. But something like that happening is scary. let us know what they determines the problem as my parents have a 2010 chevy pickup.

Got the vehicle back today. They said it was the throttle sensor. There is a GM Bulletin - Document ID is2825021, #11-06-04-007B. I'm a little concerned since after my wife started the vehicle it was shaking horribly.
It'* running OK now, though.

thanks for updating, im sure it was just relearning idle, should be fine.
yep those things are a pain, i dont think even if people started wrecking that we would see the end of it though, saves gm time on the assembly line, and sells more ridiculously overpriced parts.
