Only using K&N oil filter for 4.3L GM engine
I am only using the K&N HP-2001 oil filter for my 4.3L remote mounted oil filter needs. GMs remote filter design on the 4.3L (Blazer, Bravada, S10, Jimmy, Sonoma) is brutal. When one tries to remove the old filter, it almost always will not break free, and then tears as one uses alternate methods as trying to remove the old filter. I have tried every type of wrench with always the same results.
When I have used the K&N oil filter- it never tears and always comes off in one piece without hassle. And it has the backup "bolt" on the filter in case I do run into trouble.
I think the K&N outside case is made of a better density metal and for the remote filter mounted units- that thicker metal and solid build is a life saver. I am going to keep these in stock- a few dollars more but well worth it.

The one inch nut on the bottom of the K&N'* can really assist in removal!
My 4x4 with a skid plate below and tight space, made me switch to K&N'* a long time ago.
I use a a larger sandwich bag below as I unscrew ,and it drops into the bag nicely, saving a big mess below. I think the casings on the K&N seem tougher/thicker than most as well.

They are RE-USABLE.
Remove the filter,
Disassemble
Rinse with some sort of cleaner.
Clean the magnets
Reassemble
Reinstall..done.
K&N says the filter should last the lifetime of ownership of the vehicle.
So if you were to buy $5 filters at every oil change, divided by the cost of the K&N filter of $240 that equals out to be 48 oil filters. 48 filters X 5 months(average time an oil change is done these days) = 240 months / 12 = 20 years.
So in short, that filter should last 20 years.

Ya that is pretty expensive, not sure I want to clean them either.
I just wonder about taking a regular K& N and adding a exterior filter magnet would be nice.
