Problem with 2000 GMC sierra 1500 rearend
The rear end in my 2000 gmc truck just went out again!!!! ARRRGH!!! what year rear ends will fit in my truck?? and can I swap in a 3/4 ton six lug axle?? will the brakes switch over? I have disk brakes on mine and want to stay with them if possible. please help

3/4 tons usually have bigger brakes.As long as your backing plates will line up on a new one you can.Its all in the backing plate.It determines everything else as far as the brakes go.IS this truck 2wd or 4wd.I will assume 2wd sense you want to step up to 6 lug axles..as far as a years its more than likely gonna be 99-2003...Possibly older and newer id have to check into it more

I forgot to mention this before , It is a 4wd with 6 lugs already, Just want to step up to a stronger axle but still keep 6 lug wheels I have. I know that they make the heavy half or light 3/4 ton axle with 6 lugs also but not sure what years have disc brakes.

if you want to beef up the rear its a pretty popular swap to find a six lug 14bolt semi floater to swap in. the 2500hds are 8 lug. so i dont know which exact models it comes from maybe 2500 ld'* . fullsizechevy.com is a good source for info on this there have been a bunch of people who did it.
