ok i have a few question about my tahoe. its a 2000 ls with a 5.3 liter vortec v-8 4 wheel drive.

I have noticed that my front tires are severely worn on the inside. goes from inside edge to about 2 inches in towards center of tire. the tread on the rear tires are perfectly even.

So first question is, other then the obvious that it could be and alignment issue, Is this a suspension issue?

Few people said camber or tow in? is this some of the things adjusted by alignemnt.

All so noticed that i hear a squeaking noise when i go over bumps is this SHOCK OR STRUTS.

Second question what is difference between shocks and struts and does this vehicle have both?

Third Question is does the LS have air ride unfortunatly truck was bought used with no user manual.

1. Yes, this is an alignment issue that deals WITH the suspension. This is very common.

2. Camber and TOE is adjusted during the alignment. First thing the shop is going to tell you is to get new tires, then they will do an alignment.

3. Shocks are just shocks. Struts are springs and shocks in one package.

4. I don't know if the LS does have air ride. But I doubt it.

they used shocks at all four corners till 07, the truck is held up by a torsion bar in the front, after that the struts have the spring integrated into the strut, thats the difference. if you have air ride, not a good thing due to the high failure rate and expense you will hear the compressor turn on when you load it down. you are better off with a aftermarket setup if you haul heavy things like i got, they last longer and are a third of the cost.

ok cool. you are speaking of the squeak and inside tire ware? saying that is common with alignment issue.? so when you hear the association between shock and struts im assuming there are shocks in back struts in front??

Point would be that when i go to shop this issue can me solved by mechanic in one blow they will be able to tell me if i need new shocks/struts and allignment?

and if it does have air ride where is compressor it would be under hood right so if i would be able to hear it running if it had and issue. im trying to surf web to see if the ls has it but it doesn't say yes or no

as i said they didnt use struts till 07 and yours is a 2000, has 4 shocks. and shocks dont have anything to do with alignment. you can get them dont later or now doesnt matter, but its not your tire problem.

i believe the compressors are toward the back but its loud enough you would know if you have it.

The squeak noise, Id look at the ball joints. They are known to get dry on the inside and cause noise. Sometimes a good grease job will take care of it if they have grease fittings. The alignment will determine if they are worn. Easy way of checking for air ride is to take a peak under the truck. The rear air ride shocks will look different and will have a air line connected at the top.
