Talk me OUT of a GXP!!!
Hey fellas, it'* been forever since I've posted on here, mainly because I moved on to the Trans Am. Well, long story short, the tranny crapped out on me after adding a 4000rpm stall converter and it'* got me thinking.................the faster I make the car the less reliable it becomes (duh!). But I've been missing the comfort and luxury of my bonnie and looking at a lot of GXP'* on line here lately. I've been trying to catch up on the bonneville scene and it seems that the mod market for the 32V Northstar is slim to none. So, talk me out of trading it (the TA) in on 04-05 GXP.
Important thoughts to remember: The TA is NOT a daily driver, but the GXP probably would be. Right now I'm driving my wifes '03 Stratus sxt coupe and get close to 27mpg on average (90 mile round trip to work 5 times a week). The stratus is a fun little car, ZERO power, but decent on gas, and it'* not very comfortable on the long work haul. Plus, my wife and I just had our first baby, just turned a month yesterday! And another 4 door vehicle would be a bonus, she drives an Explorer (true soccer mom, lol).
So, give me your oppinions on the situation, fix the TA and keep modding the crap out of it, or fix it and trade it in on a GXP. Lets hear it!
Joe.

Moved to General Chat. This isn't a mechanical problem, and we reserve the mechanical sections for actual problems.
If you're looking for fuel mileage, comfort, and 4 doors, you're not looking at a GXP. It'* a little lacking in the mileage category.
I suggest getting a SE, SLE, or SSEi.

The GXP is a Nice car, but with the 3.71 Gears I think the Highway rating is 24-25...
An SSEi would be rated at 18cty and 28 Hwy iirc.... But most seem to do 30-33 on the road even under induction..
I would recommend the 03 SSEi for you... Last year of production with the 3800 SC

Ehhhh, As much as i like my SSEi and think the GXP'* look amazing, i would not trade a Cammed F-Body for any Bonneville. If you are looking for a daily driver then the GXP would be good for you even if the after market is slim to none. I just think you'd be kicking yourself in the *** when track season comes back around next year and you traded your 12 second FIrebird for a 15 second front wheel drive sedan.
Did you just edit your Signature btw? i swear it said 12 and now it says 8.xxx something at 89 mph.... That has to be an 1/8 mile time right?

Don't trade in the TA for a Bonneville... I wouldn't use a 4000 stall though either, that'* just insane on anything but a drag only car IMO.. An LS1 F body is a great thing, and hard to find in good shape a lot of times..
If you do need a daily driver esque vehicle, get a GP GXP, The LS4 V8 in there is based from the same engine family as your LS1, more moddable, and faster out of the box than the Bonne GXP.
