Default Olds Eighty-Eight Odometer not reading mileage

Hey guys,

Wow, looks like another problem arose in my Eighty-Eight that I haven't addressed even before the cylinder head gaskets blew. My odometer stopped working at the 168,578.45 mile mark and I don't know if it connects from the dash or somewhere else on the body of the car. I'd really appreciate it if it'* somewhere else 'cause pulling the dash out is out of the question for me, since I don't have the adequate tools to pull it out.

Thanks,
Martin

your car would have a vss(vehicle speed sensor) on the trans but since you didnt say the trans was acting funny and you didnt say the speedo doesnt work i would have to guess your problem is internal to the gauge.

Well, the transmission does shift hard from park and I don't know if it'* another vacuum leak tucked away where I can't hear it or see it.

that kinda sounds like a motor mount problem unless your talking slow instead of abrupt, regardless its nothing to do with the vss you would definitely be able to tell

What I mean is that when I fire up the engine and change gears slowly from park to reverse, the tranny shifts hard go to reverse and once in drive the car needs to reach 17 MPH so gear #2 comes in. Is this bad and should I get the transmission serviced?

it doesnt sound bad, and if you can see the speed that your shifting at then the vss signal is good you have to replace the gauge pod for the odometer to work

Well, Today I tightened the engine mounts and the shifts came back to normal.
