Default 3800 Series I, II, III information ?

Does anyone know when Pontiac went to the series II, then III 3800? And what were the significant differences in the engines besides the intake manifolds and roller lifters? I'm also really interested in the SC versions and their development. Is there a history of this engine'* development somewhere?
