I'm thinking that little round thing is an anti-surge chamber. Helps with the pressure relief devices and keeps fuel hammers from damaging the rail.

The 96-99 rails don't have this. Is this something that would affect performance?

I don't see how it could affect performance. It would be more of a safety device than a performance enhancement.

Kev got the cupie doll.

It'* an anti vibration or smoothing of the pumping action. 96-99 got one, but it was located in the tank as part of the coupling to the fuel sender, right after the pump.

As well.. I noticed no difference w/o it or adding the fuel rail one into the mix.

Will there be a vibration at all without it?
So the car will run fine without it?
