Default OMG,cars blows up in front of me !!!

let me begin with telling you guys I almost bit the dust yesterday,I'm lucky to be here typing this to you guys.I was driving on the onramp getting up to speed 100 kph about the enter the highway when the car ahead of me literally blows up (movie style) in front of me,I couldnt see a thing, there was black smoke everywhere, and debris flying all over the place.I heard a couple peices of debris hit my car and i had oil or something on my wind sheild,I had to turn my wipers on,he pulls over and then so do I a couple other people who witnessed this and he commando rolls out of his burning car(ford tempo ).Not sure what cause the explosion but everyone was ok .I did the once over on my car found a nice sized scratch on the lower air hole on the front bumper ,chip on my window and little scratch on top in front of sun roof.Someone calls 911 and then we chat for bit while watching this car go up in flames.A couple minutes later i go back to my car and while walking towards her i hear a faint hissing sound.Look around a bit check tires, nothing.I then pop the hood ,well where i had mentioned the nmice sized scratch on lower air damn something had flown through and punctured my rad :? ,little bit of leaking but not to bad ,I decided to leave the chunk of metal in till i got home. What a freaken day ,No one was hurt ,thank god. It could have easily been tragic.

Dude! That is one of those things you won't soon forget... good thing your radiator is all that got punctured! :? Too bad about your Bonny , but it sounds like the other guy got the worst end of the deal. Will his insurance fix your damage?

Comando style excape eh? Scary but a cool tale none the less. Would be interesting to find out what caused the explosion?

that is kind of freaky! Thank goodness you are okay and no one was injured during that ordeal. I wonder what would make it blow up like that besides sabatoge?

Since he mentions oil hitting his windshield, debris blasted everywhere and fire afterwards, I'm going to guess that the Tempo threw a rod, punched a hole in the side of the crankcase, and things went rapidly downhill after that: leaking oil, hot exhaust, etc.

I mean, you could get a fire with just a fuel leak, but for something to go *bang* and spray oil around like that, you need to knock a hole in the engine.

I was following a late-'70s Monte Carlo down the Interstate one day when its left rear tire blew out and shredded at about 70 mph. That was... interesting. The MC got almost sideways before he pulled it back; we were all changing lanes like mad to avoid the flying tire tread. You never know when something bad'* going to happen...

Now I'm going to be paranoid on the way home for flying tires and exploding cars Maybe if I go really, really fast I can avoid all of the possible problems.

One of those times you wish you had a camera with.

Glad to hear the car made it through relatively unscathed. Get that rad fixed asap!

I've seen the aftermath of what exploded cars look like...scary. Glad your ok.

I went to pass a semi once in my 94 and one of the many tires blew out in front of me. My only choice was to run it over.
