Default What'* an average price for a low mile L67?

New member Bronze Bonnie and I just landed a 1996 SSEi with 74k miles on it for $200. It is in excellent cosmetic condition but the kid who had it (from his grandfather) threw a rod. We are trying to decide whether to part it out for both of our SSEs or if he or I should drop a low mileage L67 in it and sell either his or my SSE (mine'* got issues). Before we go getting wild estimates on an engine from people around here, has anyone recently bought an L67 and if you don't mind, what did you pay for it? Apologies if this is in the wrong place.

You can usually score a motor + the blower for around $1000, check car-part.com for the ones near you......

You can probably sell the car for $4000-$6000 depending on your area so its probably worth it to put a motor in

I highly doubt it threw a rod. It probably spun a bearing and needs a new crank kit. your looking at $1500 to rebuild it at least I'd think.

Me too. I think we're looking at bearings as well, but I haven't seen the car yet. My first thought was UIM/LIM because my 96 SSE is having that very problem now (I think), but others on the site say that doesn't happen to the SC engine.

I have become so addicted to Bonnies that I'll probably do the engine job and sell my SSE (that is if bronze bonnie isn't interested; he'* reading, that'* why I had to say that). When I say "Bonneville", my wife says "now what?", but I got her converted too.

I know someone that got an entire car (totalled) with good engine trans for around $500....

Now we can speculate all you'd like or you can check the local yards and car-part. The nice thing is you don't need most of the parts.

One opton would be to check your local parts stores for a short block and then swap everything over and have a newly rebuilt bottom end.
