Default Out of the Shop..pt2

Here we go....

So, I just dropped $1147.56 on my repairs today, full brake servicing, new back brakes the whole magilla, 180T stat, coolant temp sensor, inner tie rod, balancing, rotation, spring maintenance package.

After all that is said and done, I start the car, let it warm up...the coolant temp gage WORKS...what a concept I let it idle....after 15 seconds, I here a loud high pitch vibration coming from the engine. Called the guy out....it sounded like it was coming from the transmission vac line adaject to the tb down to the tranny housing. I could here a hissing noise coming from the trans vac line. I figured this out based on my Chiltons manual and its vac diagrams.

Now, I'm having terribly hard shifting problems. Let me assume that 1 and 1 equals 2 here. Since the vac line is broken, is that causing my hard shifts...in particular from Park to Reverse or Drive?

Oh and to add to the insult....my tonight I went to get some cleaning products....started the car and the coolant gage pegs and doesn't move...apparently it read 140 degrees Celsuis and won't budge until I turn the car off. WTF is with that????!!! at least the 180 T stat works.

I'm a so unbelievably pissed right now...oh one more thing..is the car safe to drive until Monday morning?

I need some feedback here...don't let me down

NOOOOOOOOOO!! Sorry to hear that man. I'm no car expert but I'd say if it feels like it'* not running right it might be better to be safe than sorry. Hopefully it'* nothing major but with cars, it always is.

We sealed up the trans vac line at the TB with silicon but thats not working out to well. The hard shift occurs when going from Park to Reverse or Drive...(sorry I'm repeating) and when I slow down to a stop (not so bad...)

When under acceleration it shifts fine, similarily when I go under hood and push down on the throttle the hissing stop (ie simulated acceleration)

All I want to know..is it driveable...and will I do permanent damage to the trans? I need the car tomorrow...and if I cancel on a client and miss the meet in Barrie a lot of people are going to be unhappy....

Hmmm...I might rent a car...bah..its to late...

Updated info. Many thanks to Smellbird and willwren for this.!!

Apparently the car thinks its always at WOT, since the vac line has been comprimised the car shifts hard. But the one that worried me was the hard shift from Park..bla bla bla.

Seth..as for the hose, it needs a custom 4 hose 1 bolt connection part, its gonna cost me 10 bux...not bad. Thank your friend for his help too

Bill also told me I have to lay off the throttle during gear changes. Once i talk with over more with Bill, I'll feel better

Don’t Drive It!!!!!!!!!! (Unless you have to for a short distance.) Every time you take it out of park or put in reverse you are hurting the trans just a bit and this will shorten the life of your transaxle quite a bit. Now just be very careful to be sure it was the shop that actually did this before you go back complaining about it.

I will have more information tomorrow or Monday that you can use when talking to the shop.

I found it odd that nothing was wrong with the car until I put the car in reverse to head home. I want to think that the broken trans vac line is the cause of the hard shift

Alright, now that my day is royaly screwed over I missed out on a new design project, I'm going to miss my first Ontario Bonneville Club meet, and I don't have access to my car to even clean until Monday....gotta freeload another ride to work all for a stupid 10 dollar vac connection manifold.

You 92+ owners are lucky with your pressure regulators and PCM controlled trannys, I've had my legs totally cut off by a god damn trans vac line. Our trannys work loosly based on a vac seal...unbelievable

So, here I sit, lamenting what should be, and how I can patch up this hole that is my Saturday June 7 2003. I think I'll go vaccum the house, any one else wanna kick when I'm down?

The car is back at the shop, waiting....oh and as a kicker..they're going to add another tie to my saggy parking brake line....what a glorious idea

Oh one more thing...that coolant gage...pegs and sticks...maybe I said that.... :?

Did you tell the shop about the coolant gauge? It sounds like they may have put in a bad sensor.
