Whats it worth?
Hey gang, I'm looking at a 98 SSEI. Its at a "high end" junkyard right now due to a blown engine. Its loaded as far as I can tell, black with tan leather, 106K on the ticker. Its very clean everywhere. Looks to me like the last owner just plain ran it out of oil for whatever reason. It will start but knocks like mad (I ran it for all of 2 seconds before I shut it off). I can rebuild the engine & trans no problem, but am a little leary of the supercharger. Would it be wise to rebuild this at 106K also or replace it?
The big question is whats it worth? They offered it to me for $2900 & they'll give me a used engine to take with it. I'm not interested in just dropping another engine in it, I'd rather rebuild one & the trans as long as I'm in there & have a real nice cruiser. I dont know what to offer for it "as is"- any ideas? I cant find anything to compare it to!

You mean a Series 2 L67 can fail!? Oh man i'm crushed. Judging by all the mods people put on those things I thought they were unstopable. Did the owner put in coolent instead of oil? In all seriousness a 98' SSEi with a new engine on the way and you're asking if $2800 is a good deal. The features those cars have alone are worth 2 grand. The */C is a tough unit like Will said. Not many small parts to break. The */C is fine unless the owner put coolent in that too.

id hit it too. what i would do though is swap the engines, rebuild the blown engine with performance crap, get used to driving it with the normal engine, then load up the souped up engine, ahd hang on. thats what i hope to do with my tempo, if it ever makes it back on the road.
