Trim level meanings----straight from PONTIAC!!!
The truth is revealed!
We're ALL eating crow on this one.
SE-no meaning other than a trim/model package.
SSE-Ditto
SLE-Ditto (started in 93)
SSEi-Ditto+Supercharged
They had 4 days and 3 different departments researching this at
Pontiac. Fernando Gomez was the rep I worked with. He got a kick out
of researching something FUN, and said to say HI! to all of you!
(everyone say "Hi Fernando!")
The closest analogy I can come up with is that these trim codes are similar to Chevy'* Z codes. Z71, Z24, Z34, etc. They don't stand for anything other than a trim/performance/model GROUP.
No ****. Pontiac didn't want to 'copy' another GM division, so they set out on their own. How depressing.????
And GTO?
Gran Tourismo Omologato.....the ferrari slam is confirmed!

First off, Hi Fernando! :P
Maybe since Pontiac couldn't name them, we can! We could collectivly come up with the "official" meaning and then tell Pontiac what they are. You think that will fly?

According to Pontiac, it means NOTHING. Nada, zip. Zilch.
They purposefully did NOT copy the traditional Chevy SS tag.
Nuthin but a designation for trim/option levels.
Really. They busted their asses to prove it to me, and it looks like JR backed me up by calling 'em too. BTW, we were both sober when we did it.

Yes this is true but it is fun to speculate. You guys remind me of a bunch of kids when they find out Santa is not real. Or like a bunch of fanatics when they heard Elvis had kicked it. Yes he HAS passed on.
