What is that piece called?
The winter really tore up the front piece that runs along the front end. I call it the scraper piece, because all it does is scrape the pavement and crack apart going up my drive.
What is it called?
I removed it..
Does it serve a purpose, or can I leave it off?
What are people doing?

Still intact on my car. It'* kind of beaten up, but not too bad.
I vote for leaving it on. It was put there for a reason by GM engineers. The likely purpose is to help the cooling system.

Keep in mind that back then, we weren't positive about it'* effect on cooling efficiency. I was looking at high-speed stability, and believe it or not, it made a difference.
