He opted for the 280,000 miles engine for a little less than $200, they did a compression test just for fun, the cylinders tested at no more than 5 psi diffrence between cylinders, alll 6 cylinders tested about the same to the amazement of the junkyard owners... So the guy bought the engine and put it in his car... The last time that talked to him it had 300,000 on it and he was still driving it.... Those 3800'* are serious...

Also note the passenger side rear doors side piece is missing, this happend last April when i made a left turn in a residential area to take my friend home, i turned at 40 mph the car slid acrros the road almost bouncing off the curb, it was enough force to make that side piece fall off and drag, i got out of the car at his house, all my friends in the car were laughing there asses off, i had to sit in my car for a few minutes befor driving i was laughing so hard! IT WAS SO FUNNY! the screaching tires then the **** falling off the car!

squeezed 200k from a 1990 VIN C in an 88 Royale. Still ran strong and smooth when it left my ownership. Of course it did spin a cam bearing at 100k, let a mass rebuilder rebuild the short block and it started using a quart every 400-500 miles about 12k after that but it always ran STRONG

My mom'* old 1988 Olds 98 Regency brougham had 265,000 miles on the original motor and trans when we sold it in 1996 for $2100.
My parents just sold thier 1992 Park Avenue Ultra Series I L67 with 207,000 miles on the original motor and trans. They got $3200 US for it from the first person that looked at it.
My 1992 Bonneville SE was rear-ended with 300,000 miles on the original motor and trans (still ran extremely strong).
My 1994 Bonneville SLE has 206,000 miles and it'* only problems are electrical -the motor and trans are sound (need a sensor as trans only goes into OD lockup with the cruise control on).
My friend has a 1995 Bonneville SLE Series II L36. The motor and trans were replaced back in 1998 when the car itself had 50,000 miles (we don't know if the new motor and trans were NEW or junkyard equipment). Today he has over 220,000 miles on the car, and 170,000 on the motor and trans and it runs pretty dang good for as ill-cared-for as it is (I'd bet he'* only changed the oil no more than 7-8 times since he got it with 130,000 miles on the car -I personally have changed his oil 3 times and every time when I pulled the drain plug only about 1 quart has drained out ).
I believe the electronics (sensors, computers, etc...) are going to be about 99% of the problems for these 3800'* (not counting the L36 intake problem). The way they were desiogned and built these engines should/will easily outlast the suspension, body, interior and electricals of our cars.
