92-94 had the T handle as a standard option. But take a look at the differences between the SSEi (my stock T handle on the shifter) and the SSE. Mine has a relief cut in the top and bottom of the button (a pocket) and the button is slimmer, shorter, and easier to press. This SSE handle I got from the wrecker is an identical match to Jseabert'* 93 SSE shifter. Does anyone else have one like my STOCK shifter (mounted)?



A 1995 SSEi Cobra head shifter (first year for this shifter) mounted on my lever. Notice the vinyl trim boot doesn't reach the bottom of the shifter. This shifter head sits alot higher, so there is a longer 'throw' when shifting. I prefer my T Handle to this shifter, but I may give it time. This shifter was used from 95-99 (95-99 may use a taller boot? Confimation?):




Now the bigtime score.....the 2000+ T handle is a better shape and a more ergonomic angle. To make the swap work, you need the vinyl trim boot, as it comes up around the base of the shifter. I have the vinyl boot simply tucked in here, over the stock boot:

I haven't looked at my stock shifter in a while, but I think it has the larger button. Is it possible that the reliefs in your button were latch points for a clip that held the larger button cover on?
My cobra head sits high like that one, also. The boot doesn't quite reach.

Good point. I'll have to dissect the SSE shifter. If that'* the case, try to pull yours. I prefer it.

My t-bar is in a box at my parents' place. I like my snake, but it could sit a little lower.

That'* the problem I have with the Cobra shifter. The height. I also don't like the lever. But I like the 2K T handle MUCH better than any of them.

How do you remove the shifters? Just curious, never had to remove mine. I like the Bonneville shifters, but I don't think another shift would look right on my car. :?

Bill, mine is like the T-Bar one that you had in there originally. The rounded off button piece on mine broke off, and i have since lost it, I really like the looks of that 2000+ shifter handle, nice find!

There'* a little clip on the forward face of the base. Pull it straight forward towards the stereo (use a small screwdriver to pry it loose.....it'* in a recessed slot). Then pull the shifter handle up. Very simple.

Here'* mine, big button. The slot is where the clip goes.

John, see if you can figure out how to remove the big button cover. It makes for a shorter reach for the thumb, and you may want to go back to it
