Default The hitch is a bitch

Took the hitch off the SSEi 3 weeks ago with the intent of putting it on the SLE. I'd forgotten just how much of a horrid job that is with the L67 exhaust. And I realized I left the LONG bolts I needed in the 93'* rear impact absorbers. So I had to rip BOTH cars apart.

I think the 93'* exhaust hangers are on the 95 now, but I'm not sure.

Note to self:

Next time, remove and re-install at the same time. This is NOT a one-person job.

Already knew what I got myself into. got no long bolts so the hitch hasn't been installed, which is currently ok since I won't be using the car for a couple months. Can you take pictures of where it gets installed so I can have a reference when I do try it?

Pretty straight forward. Drop exhaust pull the bumper cover, it bolts to the bumper support bolts and then you drill into the unibody frame, pull the bumper supports to put the bolts in..

It'* easy!

You don't have to pull the bumper supports. Not at all. The trick is raising the hitch and the exhaust, mark the holes for the U-bolts in the subframe, then drop the exhaust and hitch, drill 4 holes, install 2 u-bolts and put everything back up again.

I can take pics soon. Keep in mind you'll need 6 longer bolts (even though the hitch only uses 2 on each side, your exhaust hanger may need a longer bolt). One long on each side in the lower exhaust hanger hole will require you to remove the rubber portion of the hanger to insert.

Which hitch did you get? Hidden Hitch makes one exclusively for the SSEi/SSE, another for ONLY the SE/SLE, and another that will fit both styles. The SSEi hitch fit great on the SLE/SC. Just a pita with only one person.

When originally installed on the SSEi, it took Jseabert and I just over an hour to do it together.

I got the one that was on Bill'* 95 SSEi, but I don't remember which it was. Won't be using it til spring, unless my dad decides he wants to use it to move the trailers around the yard.

It was a pain to get off and I wouldn't be looking forward to the install.
