I know I'm new here so words coming from a newbie might not sound as heartfelt, but in all seriousness, be thankful worse things didn't happen.
I've lost a few freiends to car accidents and a few to motorcycle accidents, and when I lost my friend, I mourned for a while, if it were my dad, I'd never know what to do. In retrospect, it was your car that potentially saved your dads life.
I know how much a car can mean to a person as well, Mine has been hit 3 times, and each time I was frozen for 2 days going "what to do". As time went on I started fixing a few things...and well, without the help of the insurance companies got the car back into shape. Sometimes fixing a broken car is just as rewarding as maintaining one
Depending on who'* at fault, you could get some $$ back from the insurance company and keep the car. Then find a suitable donor body and transfer your parts over. I know if I lived remotely close to you I'd even be willing to travel to your place just to help with the rebuild. Not to mention I have a few friends who would probably help you out to. It wouldn't be the "same" car, but after a while it sure would feel like it. And on the plus side, it would be a great father son project. And that'* more rewarding than anything...
In the end, I hope things work out for you man. And based on the pic of the S10 and your car, your wax jobs paid off, it looks like the S10 slid down the car.
Keep your head up man, fathers day is coming soon!
