Default T-stat making me mad!

I have seen that almost everyone on this forum has a 180 T-stat so I figured it must be a good mod to get. I just installed one and noticed immediately that my acceleration was slowed. It was nothing drastic but just enough to notice. Then my local mechanic tells me that putting in a 180 affects the top end gear lock and this makes me think even more about taking it out. Does anyone else have these problems? Maybe the car just takes some time to get used to the 180?? Any advice here would help.

even if it messes w/ your top end gear lock thingy its worth having it in because of its cooling...it amkes it cooler quicker....if you go w/ a stock 195 then your car runs hotter and may run more sluggish...

I too have no problems from runnin 180 T-stat.. and dont see why it would affect your TCC. ( maybe your mechanics just wants you to spend more money in his shop?? ). that would be like sayin runnin high octane premium gas ( thats a must for */C cars ) would be bad for the N/A engines..

And the intake melting would cost you way more in the long run and the aggravation too ( like JR stated )

I have had no problems. My acceleration never got affected after I put it in either. I've heard A LOT of ppl who said mechanics always tell them not to use the 180 in our cars, so maybe he IS trying to get you to spend more $$ in his shop like Drifter said. The 180 is so commonly used, you noticed yourself, and it wouldn't be if it caused problems.

Maybe there was another reason why you seemed to run slower?

Same here Jim...
Ditto. No decrease in performance or efficiency, just lower operating temps.

It was the first thing I did and I have no problems from it. Mileage and performance are fine.
