Meltdown on the way to work
This can serve as a good reminder to everyone with regards to corroded battery cables.
One mile from home, 500 feet from Bo'* babysitter'* house, the car completely shut down (95 SLE). I knew instantly what it was, as I've fought corrosion on the positive battery cables on this car before (about 6 months ago). This time it was so bad, it was melting and smoking when I popped the hood.
30 minutes later (after cutting the boots apart that had melted together) and cleaning, I was on my way back to work.
Note the white corrosion dust in the engine bay.
I'm a firm believer in cleaning these at least once a year on both cars, even though I have no problems on the other car. Just a reminder for you. It could have been much worse. The cables were probably nearly hot enough to combust. It had to cool for 10 minutes before I could cut them apart.

Thanks for the reminder, Bill. My Bonneville cables are recently cleaned, but I have been letting the cable connections on the truck go, even though there'* a bunch of corrosion on them. In this case, the cables need replacing and I have just been putting it off.
I'll get going on ordering the replacements and get them changed.

while Bill had the car die and he already knew better. My situation was odd codes due to power fluctuations.
All my cables are brand new due to under boot corrosion.
When you have the cables undone, pull the boots up and off to look where the cable is clamped into the end.

The red thing on mine is so much more melted, its almost impossible to get a charger on there. I have few from the JY, Im just to lazy to install them.

You may want to fix your issue before it becomes worse if they are melted that badly.
