You have 5 minutes from the time you make your post to edit it. After those 5 minutes, only a mod or an admin may edit your post.

In those first 5 minutes you'll see an "Edit" button next to the quote button.

I don't think basic members can edit their posts. I think only supporters have the ability to do that..

Because we like everybody to be involved. Your mistakes don't matter. If you feel they are bad enough, just make another post detailing what you got wrong.

It'* not a big deal.

I am on many car forums & share at all of them as well as find solutions. I have 30 yrs truck & heavy equipment professional experience.

It seems to be a trivial thing to be able to simply edit a post to improve the accuracy of the response. I am a less than par typist & I seem to be losing my average ability to spell & sight for that matter.

Maybe there should be some other type of sanction that does not inhibit the integrity of posted responses accuracy to other members seeking help.

Other sites I frequent don't allow personal avatars which has no consequence to the reliability or content of responses.

I try contribute accurately & shouldn't have to pay a forum tax for this basic function.

It'* kinda like being able to use the toilet but forbidden to flush it unless you pay the tax.

I understand your frustration. I had it myself until I was promoted to Mod status.

From my understanding this limitation came to be because of a fallout that was had with some past members. When they decided they were leaving they deleted a lot of their posts. That was a lot of collective knowledge lost. So, the rule of not allowing anybody to edit posts was instituted to keep that from happening again.

So you are saying folks would leave before the 5 minute time span and wiping the info? Other forums I frequent have a ten minute edit window or longer.

Any posts I have contributed are permanent archived property of the forums and I couldn't erase them without administrative help.

This just seems like the wrong approach to me. I want to follow rules & policies but this causes other supporting members to experience mistakes that would other wise be corrected.

I have ten thumbs on this keyboard and this seems to be a silly way to deal with this issue.
I am not that about my spelling or inaccurate info but like the breif opportunity to correct as I usually miss something.
