there is a chip that removes the govenor.
however 3800 performance is comming out w/ a new pcm forour cars. as soon as they do im buying one. itll eliminate the top speed and gainabout 20 hp. plus its more mod friendly vs teh ase chip which doesnt like other mods like rockers/cai/exst/ throttlebody etc.
ill let ya know when they come out and how i like mine
Not to be a bad egg, but dont expect any HP from the chip. Be more realistic and realize that 1) there will have no governor, 2) you will have to run at least 91 octane and 3) you will have better throttle response (No dead spots like the infamous 40-50 WOT death). Plus, you have to tell 3800 Performance if you want anything special done to your chip. And remember, the 3800 chip is based off Grand Prix'* that have the performance shift button, so if you dont have one (I dont think Bonneville'* do.. mine doesnt) you will have to add one to even use the chip settings. The only one that really truly does a chip for us is ASE chips (www.asechips.com
) and I have spoken to them. Most people are told that they cannot do custom chips for their cars and its a standard program. However once I called them and since I live an hour away from them, they said they might be able to tune it more to my specs since they have a dyno there. Just food for thought on what the 3800 Performance chip really is. Read the fine print on the website.
