Default Working under your car.

not sure if this is where it should be, but its kind of general so i put in here.

When you guys have to get underneath your car to do something (im replacing the fuel filter) do you block it up somehow? it is pretty low to the ground for me to get underneath without anything, and im not a big guy at all. I was just curious what everyone else does.

If I'm jacking up the front I put the stands on the subframe rails on the sides off the engine that run front to back, as close to the front of the car as possible.

On the back I usually put the stands so they "cup" the part of the rear control arms where the bolt/bushing is (on the 92-99, 2000+ could be different). Hard to explain in words. Most should know what I mean.

I've got two sets of ramps on the farm, and the bonne can't make it up either set because the front end hangs out too far and too low in front of the wheels, so its always a jack for me.

Rhino ramps has a set..they are meant for low bodied cars. They handle all the weight of our cars plus.

If I'm in need of getting under the front end for something more extensive than an oil change I jack it up by the front subframe (right in front of oil pan) and put the jack stands on the rear most subframe bolt on each side. Then on the rear well..that'* more fun to jack and support.

Best practice is not to use the suspension when supporting the car. The suspension has movement and you want to relieve the ability of it to move and possibly push the jackstand in the directly of that movement.

I have 4 jackstands, and I use them frequently, however, ramps are nice at times when you want to keep the weight on the wheels

I either jack it up and put stands under it, or drive it up on our custom made ramps (2 4x8s and a couple cinder blocks) and then of course put stands under it. I won't get under any car without stands.
