That does it. The coolant in the new Pontiac Torrent is getting dumped, flushed with water, and reloaded with conventional 50/50 mix. I don't care if it is still under warrantee or not.

I've already done the other cars over the years. The '94 Camaro, first one I owned with DexCool, suffered a complete coolant dump about 5 years ago when a freeze plug rusted through from the inside-out. I wrote it off to a bad freeze plug. Having seen the insides of my overhauled 3800 Series II project, I know different.

The '87 Camaro and '90 Bonneville never had DexCool in them, and their original radiator cores look brand new.

Any new news on the rumor that GM recently (and very quietly) reformulated the DEX?

I'm glad GM didn't use that stuff in 1990 , those pictures look sickening :(

I just had my coolant flushed and switched to prestone too. If the engine had Dex in it until about 2 weeks ago, will the green stuff prolong the life of my gaskets/ etc. or am I still screwed and should I get it done as soon as possible :?

Rach.....the damage is already done. You still need to replace your LIM gaskets. And do the upper while you're at it.

Every car here that has had DEX for over a year or two should change it soon. My opinion, but well-founded by our research and experience.

Okay. Mine had dex for nine non serviced years.
It was recently flushed in June. I am running the orange stuff still (Halvoline)....should I flush it over to the Green stuff soon?
Cause that is easy enough to do...
