Default Alternator purchased Update pg 2

Well I just confirmed my plans to go to Staten Island NY for Thanksgiving and I believe my Alternator is going to crap the bed on me, sooooo Should I just buy a new one at Autozone and be done with it, or buy a used one when Me and Bill hit the JY this Saturday?

I rather spend less, but dont want to chance how much longer the used one will last since im taking a trip out to NY.

And I dont mind buying the new one, but I will have less money to take with me for the trip.

I'd buy new before I bought a part like that from the JY.

I agree. Some parts from the JY are fine. Parts you absolutely have to trust to work, not so much....

Do you have any pricing between new and used? That will help in my decision.

Buy whichever one has the lifetime warranty. You'll be wishing you did latter on.

Rebuilt alternators (and most of the ones you buy at AZ or Napa and the like are rebuilt) are rarely as good as the original GM one. If you can find a JY one that has low miles and hasn't been sitting long I might just get that.

Do NOT buy an AZ alternator. I had 2 in a row fail! They're garbage.

#1 www.mralternator.com There'* half a dozen of them running here on this Forum, including on the Zilla.

#2 AC Delco

#3 Lifetime warranty rebuild from NAPA

well if you do buy from auto zone you do get the lifetime warranty so if it ever does go bad you can swap it out...and its pretty easy to do.

How many trips do you want to make in the next 3 months? I can think of better destinations than AZ. I'd rather have one with a lifetime warranty that I can TRUST.

Well I just called AZ and they have two sizes.

5 1/4 inch 105 Amp $99.99 liftetime Warranty $30 Core (In Stock)
6 inch 140 Amp $151 lifetime Warranty $55 Core (Have to order)

Then I called Napa (thanks Wren)

Vin 1 105 Amp 3yr Warranty $119 $59.50 Core (Have to order)
Vin 1 105 Amp lifetime Warranty $144.77 $59.50 Core (Have to order)

I didnt happen to ask what brand they were, but AZ has the one I need in stock with a lifetime warranty and they are cheaper, whereas Napa has to order one for me, which will take a day or two.

Thing is, I really only have Friday afternoon to work on it because im helping my brother move this weekend. So im kinda torn.

I have purchased an Alternator from AZ in the past for the Eclipse with no problems, and if there is a problem with it, I can squeeze in a repair if it should fail before the weekend is up. Other than that, its dark when I get home and I have no place but the parking lot to work in.

Darn it!!! Decisions decisions lol
