I just had mine removed the other day, and a magnaflow cat installed. My exhaust consists of a hi-flow cat, no res, and a magnaflow f-body muffler.

I don't find it obnoxious loud at all. It has a nice sound accelerating, and a nice rumble at idle. I has a bit of drone at cruising speeds, but nothing deafening...and with a little bit of music I can't hear it at all. As far as cracking and popping goes, I find that only happens if you rev it up HIGH in neutral...and I don't do that.

With just the muffler, it wasn't loud enough. I could barely hear the exhaust at all. In my opinion, if you are going for sound, the resonator has to go.

I can also say, the flowmaster on my '89 without a res was alot louder...and DID have an obnoxious drone. Maybe it is the Series II that is causing the difference...

However my personal feeling with my car is as long as possible, it should be silent. No need to alert the prey before you pounce.

I'm with you, I do my best to convince my V8 guys to leave their resonators on as head shouldn't be turning until you blast past em.

It all depends on what you prefer, but I only hear a burble at idle, rumble is for 3000-7000 RPM.

And a screech as your coworker blows past you...lol

Preferred sound levels are always an item of contention since there are so many different opinions as to what "loud" is and there are differing goals for the application.

That'* one reason why a good sound clip is worth way more than words and opinions when it comes to this subject.

Even so, we all know that even a sound clip doesn't give one a true and perfect method of choosing, just a relative method. Best bet is always hearing a set up live.

When your muffler breaks in, your tone will change. And how do you like the raspy popping when you rev and let off quickly?

These are the reasons I added a resonator, and I'll never regret it.

But thats me, i like a loud car. just my thing

Before I added the resonator (Bonnevilles produced before 1994 never had one from the factory), I upgraded to thick household carpet pad in the trunk. It helped to kill some of the 2500rpm drone.

The resonator I added is HUGE. Very unrestrictive, and replaces the entire intermediate pipe between the cat and the first big bend. The flanges had to be cut off to make it fit in there.
