who has a Bonneville most want a simple solution at a very low cost. The interesting thing is the average person also wants it to be of top quality. Well the most expensive mistakes I have made with my car are exactly in that area. 4 cheap Napa rebuilds in the alternator department is a great example. I would say if you want to experiment there are probably a few areas you can get away with saving a few cents, but in the end each mistake costs double the original proper solution. So if you can find the exact weight of the original oil then I am sure you can get cheaper oil. How much money do you save? If you go to the GP site and look around you will find all sorts of people who have tried the "cheap way out" with drop coils. In the end they all have to buy new struts and either replace the old stock coils or buy proper ones. I guess I’m saying I wouldn’t bother risking it. If I’m the guy checking your SC under warranty and I can prove you didn’t use the right oil. You out of luck.

Just my opinion.

Don't forget LABOUR in that equation too! Even if you do it yourself, isn't YOUR time worth anything????

After the weekend I just had, my time is worth more than the mechanic'*. I'll change the supercharger oil twice as often as required, with the GM stuff, and flush it each time, too. I want the engine to puke before the blower.
