Default Dang!!! I knew it (Death by Dexcool)

I knew I was jinxing myself lately when I was thinking recently how nice it'* been to not have any problems with my car since I bought it a year and a half ago. Well I dropped it off yesterday to have the brakes done (after just having our suv in on Monday for a broken stabilizer bar) and I find out the upper intake gave up the ghost. They found coolant in the parking lot, and checked my car and the reservoir was dry. Sweet!!! I've been watching it and has been fine. I was planning to try and do it myself this spring/summer but I guess I'll be emptying my wallet more today.

It'* not really common to leak to the outside. In that regard, you MIGHT be really lucky. But I still suggest you drain your oil ASAP and leave it that way until after the repairs are done.

Lose the DEX. Lose it entirely and never go back. Follow Techinfo for components to choose for the repair.

Every single L36 owner on this Forum should be replacing the UIM with an approved replacement (non-OEM) and the LIM gaskets, and should seriously consider changing from DEX. EVERY SINGLE L36. It'* not an IF. It'* a WHEN and if you don't get it before it happens it can cost you alot more than the 200 bucks to fix it beforehand.

Yeah this problem is not something you can wait on. Problem is the dealer insists on putting that defective coolant back in!
I had it sludge up my cooling system in just 2 years of running it. (brown sludge).
Was almost impossible to remove it all. Had to keep cleaning out the overflow tank.

What I meant was I have been checking it periodically with almost no loss of coolant before now.

They are fixing it as we speak as they found it before they started on the brakes. I had taken out the Dexcool and replaced it with all makes Prestone this past spring but I guess it was too late. They will be putting in the all makes coolant again when they are done. When I was talking to him about the intake and about the egr he said it was leaking on the opposite side.

You should still strongly consider replacing those gaskets sooner before later. The damage is already done because the Dex touched those gaskets at some point..

Ya, I read the reply, but it wasn't clear. Are they fixing just the leak (in which you never said where it was coming from, specifically)? Or, are they replacing your LIM gaskets, too?

Hopefully it'* not too late, but make sure they use the aluminum frame gaskets.
