Replace Dexcool with Universal Coolant?
...when replacing the intake gaskets this weekend, I will need to drain the coolant and replace it. I have the Dexcool...
1) reuse it? (I'm thinking not - 59k miles only, but 6 years old)
2) replace with Dexcool?
3) replace with the new Universal Coolant?
My brother works for a parts distributor - says they rarely sell Dexcool anymore...everyone is buying the Prestone Universal Coolant.

I am actually planning to go ahead and change out the coolant to the Prestone Universal already in my new GXP. In the F-body world, people and shops don't seem to like the Dex-Cool and we were very happy to see the Universal come out. I have had it in my 30th for about 2 years now and it is also in our daily driver. So might as well go ahead and convert the GXP too. That is what I would suggest...
Had to edit this as I just noticed that your Bonneville is Maple Red. Is that Maple Red Metallic? I have a good friend who has a 2000 Trans Am in Maple Red Metallic. It is a really good looking color when kept up and is pretty rare on the TA'*. How about the Bonnies?

I myself, flushed and replaced with the long life. If for no other reason that the differences in the ingredients and the long term testing Prestone has put it through.

I just switched to the regular green stuff the other day. It does as good of a job of cooling as any other fuild. No need for fancy stuff. Plus I preffer the higher frequency of change so that contaminants and other **** that reguarly forms inside can get washed out. Keeping 5 year old fluid around makes me uneasy.
No need for fancy silver bottles like you people.
