Very nice write up, looks like the hard part is done. I bet you don't sleep much tonight!

Did you replace the timing chain with another factory chain?

They never include the socket you need. I hate that. Good job so far!

Ok, I was just curious because I read a whole article on why you should just stick with an OEM chain compared to an aftermarket or even double roller, but I wasn't sure how factual it was.

A double roller chain doesn't fit in the timing chain cover real well. It brushes up on the oil pump cover. You can get a modified oil pump cover then it will be fine. However, it'* my understanding a double roller makes more noise and the knock sensors could hear that.

Unless your going with bigger springs then 105, there'* really no reason for a double chain.

Awesome progress Dan. What isn't being mentioned is how much longer it takes to do stuff when you are the same guy that has to clean his hands to take pictures etc. It really does add a lot of time.

My tensioner at 186K was still in good shape. I hadn't changed springs or added rockers though. The chain could have caught on it and caused a bigger problem. I'd venture to bet, you'll find the piece in the oil pan.

Couple quick questions, you transferred over the camshaft keyway and made sure to line up the first cam gear with the balance shaft dot, then turned the cam to line up for the crank right?

On the double roller and springs etc. Tough to say what'* what. I've heard about some chains breaking, and yet I run a single JP timing set on 130# springs with .579" and .592 lifts. The vibration with a double roller (balance shaft gear is removed for it to fit) is too much for most people'* liking. It'* best when the bottom end is at least 50% balanced and even then it could make you hate your car. You can use double gaskets or mill the oil pump cover .020" to clear the chain.

It'* very true, along with the extra time it takes to resize and upload all of the pictures. So thanks Dan! We appreciate the extra effort you put in for the rest of us.

Hmm, I don't recall now that you mention it. No big deal though, I hadn't torqued the cam bolt yet. I'll have to pull it off and check just to make sure.
