Default Better Brakes

I want better brakes, mine squeak too much because of the dust and them just being the sucky stock crap. Plus, they might not pass testing because of how dirty, dusty, and dingy they are. So, I want some slotted/ or drilled or whatever is better, and preferbably without any brake dust collecting on them, because I hate that noise with a passion. I will squeak for 20 yards when slowing down.

Try using NAPA Ceramix pads. They don't produce as much dust(although what they do put off is a rust-red color), and they really haul you down quick.

Do what I did. Get a set of slotted rotors from RSM racing and also get the brake pads that go with them. They are titanium/ceramic pads. They work great.

You can probably order them right from the rsm website.

I put them on my 2003 Malibu LS. I am on my second set of pads though. mind you I put about 70,000 kms ( about 44,000 miles) a year on the car and I don't drive that easy either, LOL.

He may have the same problem I have. The shop told me all the squeaks were from too much hard braking and a sort of enamel melts over them. the squeak is loud as all hell, and happens almost every time.

I did brakes before, but not on my car. They were allready sanded down and all that good junk. I think the pads are raybestos or something like that, there blue thats all I know. Everything is the stock material. The brakes squek early in the morning, high and dry in the afternoon and when the cows come home in the evening. It dont matter if its down hill or up hill, 50 mph or 5 mph they squek and there proud of it. I would just take them off and clean them, but no use, maybe for a few days they wont squek, but it will come back, it always does. That noise is unstoppable. After inspection, if they pass that, then I will look at getting a new setup, but if they dont pass then I want a upgraded quality, no more stock material.

I looked at some sites allready, looks like RSM aint bad, I found some other sites with the same rotors. Now, how are the drums set up in the back? Do the squek at all, or as much as the discs can?

If you want quiet get a good organic pad (as they are not made of a metalic substance and will wear quickly and not make much noise) if you want stop go with a metallic pad. SBS makes the best stuff but its expensive. EBC has a good combination of stopping power and low price, and let me tell you G tech measured my 60-0 in 128 feet which is pretty dang good for a heavy azz car. They have a great initial bite and continue to stop really well after repeated hard braking. As a matter of fact when I ran my Gtech test (measuring 0-60 then 60-0) I ran 4 times in a row hard acceleration to 60 then HARD braking back down to 0 and didnt have any fade at all....good stuff. If you are looking for less brake dust then you are in LALA land brakes all cause dust and will squeek if not cleaned regularly (high pressure car wash works well for this) Ceramic brake pads are a new fad because the brake dust usually is a silver color therby matches the color of most wheels and wont show up black like mettalic pads will.....problem with ceramic pads is they dont soak the heat fast enough so instead of the heat going into the pad and backing plate then into the caliper like it should, alot more of the temps are staying right at the pad surface and then going to the nearest metal (brake rotor) alot of Police departments switched over to ceramic right after they came out thinking it was going to be great for longetivity but ended up going back to mettalics because they were going through rotors so fast. Another thing is rotors themselves can cause a squeek when braking if they are heat glazed, look at youre rotor and see if it has a bluish ring around the area where the pad touches when braking if it does then you drive like me and have to use yer brakes alot to halt down all that weight from those superlegal speeds when the detector goes off A good example would be my Buick, when I got the car the brakes were perfect and totally quite, and so I drove it like I drive (HARD) for a few months then they started to squeek, so one day at work I was having one of my techs rotate my tires and I took at look at the front rotors, low and behold that blue ring. That is when I got new slotted rotors and EBCs for the RegalEvil. What I suggest is going with a slotted rotor and a good mettalic pad (they will sometimes make a small bit of noise but will last longer work better and haul that car back down to legal speeds for the constible ALOT quicker)
