Default Smart ricer avoids embarassment

Well I was on the way back from getting all the tune up stuff for my new bonny, driving my '88. Pep boys parking lot, lots of ricers buying LED exhaust tips and things. One particularly bold ricer hears my bonny start up and seeks to challange my domestic powered superiority. He lights up his tires on the way out (as much as one can light tires with double didget torque) and winds it up until it sounds like the ruber band is gonna snap before he shifts. I exit the parking lot rather quickly, with only a slight loss of traction, and proceed to run him down. I pull even with him in 2nd gear tapped out, turbo spooling and do the whole whistly thing. I meet him at the light, and toss over a couple revs. He revs back once. I start feathering the gas petal and built up a little boost, and he must have realized what was going on by then. I looked over at him, he was far less arrogant now... no more revving coming from him. I motion to him "let'* go," and he revs his engine in typical rice boy defiance. Then when the light turned green, he took a right and wound it out. I guess they're not as dumb as i though, oh well. My tranny didn't need that anyway

I got the '88 a while back, drove it, wrecked it (triple digits into a deer, boom) found a donor car, drove it around primer, built the turbo setup, then in the fall a tore it all down and layed on a slick black paintjob with charcoal ghost flames. I took a pretty good hiatus from the site during that time (not a whole lot of turbo info to be found here :( ) Then i bought my '93 and hopped back on the forums, lots of supercharger info 'round here! I've been around, just not posting

Nice!

---Off topic--- Did you have to get a different intake manifold for that turbo?

i could have gotten away with a stock one, but i kept the piping as short as possible (more efficient) my intake is actually on the opposite side from stock, it was just easier to run the intercooler piping that way. I never test fit it but i'm pretty sure the Ford injectors I'm using wouldn't work without modifying the stock manifold either

When people hear a turbo they automatically think that they are gonna lose, because evidently a turbo means its fast. Thats why I don't rev at people. They hear the turbo, then back down. Or I just rev slowly I don't get any boost so the turbo doens't make any noise. Its just for some reason, if they hear the turbo and are smart enough to know that the noise they are hearing is a turbo, they back down. It pisses me off.

Yeah, I have the same problem with the lumpy cam in my Trans Am. Even the LS1 guys don't want nothing to do with that

edit: it is worth noting though, that while an LS1 Z28 Camaro will back down, a Del Sol with a fart pipe things he can take me. hmmm, 1.8L vs. 6.6L (actually 6.9, but the shaker still reads 6.6) My bets on the jap trap, yea!
