Default Haynes or Chilton'*?

I know, it'* best to have both. But if you were to be stranded on a desert island with a full service gas station, your '89 Bonneville LE, and ONE repair manual, which one would you take?

I'm thinking that I should get one, and I want the most info for my money. I'm cheap, ok? There, i said it. I feel so much better now.

I have several manuals for several different cars and the Chilton manuals have always been better then Haynes.

Go Chiltons...its far more extensive than Haynes, lots of good info.

I have one, and its great for a non-mechanically inclined guy like myself

Okay then, so far we're leaning toward Chilton'*. Where'* the best (cheapest, obviously ) place to get one? And.. Are there more than one version for our cars, and if so which one shall I buy?

This is what I would recommend. A bit more expensive ($24) but a much better service manual than either the Haynes or the Chilton.

I got my Chiltons at WalMart, it was out of the cellophane wrap, and looked like it had been used in the shop..LOL, so I got it for half price

Regular price...Fuddy is right about 25 bucks...well worth it, trust us!

I too will vote for Chilton.. keep the Haynes around for wipin your butt when you run out of toilet paper :? hahahaha.. even thought they're cheaper. There'* basically nothing useful in it since it generalizes too many vehicles in it, and is vague on description.

You got about 17 hours left on this dealer manual. I would highly recommend it.

Fuddy is right(again)! The Factory Service Manual is thee first manual you should buy and Ebay is the way to get an older(if not slightly used) manual. I just bought my manual on Ebay a couple of weeks ago for 14 bucks which included shipping(I guess there is not too much demand for a 1991 Orphan 88 manual this time of year) so it looks like I did well with Ebay. The diagrams are excellent. Hell, it shows me exactly where the drain hose is to my Electric Antenna that froze up on my last month. So if your cheap(or even Thrifty), Go Ebay, Go with the Original Factory Service Manual!

If you don't go for the Factory manuals, Chiltons is best....however, the Haynes and Clymer manuals will sometimes have an easier procedure or shortcuts listed for some stuff. Having the added perspective is nice.

I have the Chiltons and the Haynes. I'm planning to buy the Clymer and Factory.
