17psi will go boom. Try closer to 6 or 7

This really depends. I think the motor can handle the pressure, but it will need to be tuned etc to work together.

Boost pressure though is a measurement of the excess pressure being read in the LIM. It'* actually not a true reading of power.

If he'* pushing 17psi of boost he'* a idiot. pressure is heat, and heat is KR. Flow is far better. My engine is far more built then his and I'm doing a max of 13.8psi

To answer your question, 9 or 10 is about as high as your going to want to go. Getting up to around 14 and your at the limits of the gaskets. On a nearly stock engine I don't even suggest going as high as 10.

I think Wren was pushing 13psi in Greenzilla, but porting brought the number back down. I know PontiacJeff was probably pulling around 17psi on a series 2, but he also blew 2 headgaskets, which is no small feat in a 3800.

As was said, your goal is not to make more boost, your goal is to make more flow. Boost is just a measurement of how much airflow you don't have.

High boost numbers on a Series 1 also mean a lot of heat is being generated. The M62 used from 92-95 is very inefficient and creates a lot of heat.

FWIW on my old Bonne setup with stage 3 heads, headers, rockers on top of the heads and S1X camshaft with Gen V blower over a full sized intercooler, I was running a 2.9" pulley on the street. Near 6,000 rpm I'd see about 15psi. That pulley on a car w/o all those flow mods would probably push around 30psi. Again..that'* not a number you want to be high.

X2. And my vote for most rational short answer. When you have an engine with near bulletproof internals, exhaust flow at it'* max possible, and tuning is handling your present flow..... then boost pressure is something to go back to increasing. Shortcuts are inefficient and in the end cripple something. In my day that was strapping high rise manifolds, dual carbs, and headers on. And making alot of noise, a little better performance, and breaking **** fast. LOL.
