mine that is...

so im on my lunch break, pull out of the parking lot, come up to intersection 1, tranny doesnt kick in right away, im like wtf...block later, i come up to intersection 2, tranny doenst work, any gear...im like WTF. it died right in the middle of a busy intersection of a hwy. i had my flashers on and was trying to wait for a break in the traffic. i get it off the road and a cop shows up, but he tells me he can be of no help according to his policy.

so then i notice the HUGE puddle of tranny fluid where my car was at the intersection. i walk over to the ford dealership accross the street and buy 6 pints of dextrol. put it all in and start it up. instantly blows it about 2 quarts out. i found the leak. 1 stupid little hose clamp couldnt do its job and came right off. went back to the dealership to get a screwdriver, and got it all tight. keep in mind i have a 30 min lunch break and im completely greasy and sweaty. yuck. get everything on, and drive back to work with 4 quarts in. after work, drive to walmart and get 5 more quarts and fill er up. its driving good as of now. im gonna take it back to windom and have my dad look it over to make sure nothing got wrecked. smoke was coming from everywhere cuz i spilled some ATF somewhere... think im in the clear??? 1-2 blocks with almost no fluid?

That sucks, man. Luckily it was just a clamp and not a hose.

There was a TSB regarding tranny lines that willwren is more than familiar with. You may want to check if your year was included in the TSB and correct it at the same time.

I'm sure it wasn't great for the tranny. But, i'd completly flush with some syn. atf. That way if there was any burnt fluid left, it will be flushed out, and prevent further damage.

NO!!!!! Don't use synthetic trans fluid in a high-mileage trans. Alot of your friction material is already gone, and the super-slick synthetic stuff could cause too much slip.

The TSB (was actually a recall) is actually regarding the crimp from the hard line to the rubber. Not a hose clamp. The new replacement lines have hose clamps, at least more of them. A few of us have done the work ourselves, but I'm the only one that actually had the usually-deadly fire to go with it.

I think you'll be fine. You had alot more fluid than you thought you did

wow, so I shouldn't use synthetic oil on my tranny? the cheap stuff will work best? Or just dex 3 is bad?

Stick with Dexron. Use synthetic at your own risk. As the trans ages, you lose friction material on the bands. Synthetic fluid can be slippery enough to push you over the edge.

wow, my mistakes make me learn a lot. I won't risk tranny damage.. just to spend more money. Cheap = good. mmm I love the sound of saving money. I guess me being wrong all the time does help..

You use Castrol GTX too? wow, that'* weird. You don't use engine oil in your tranny, right?
