Default No power issue?!

Guys I need some help with an issue that `had driven me nuts all day. I have had minimal time to work on this car and have finally gotten to the point that it is ready to run. I have a 2003 Bonneville SSEI that I swapped engines in. Easy enough? I thought so. I get everything hooked up and go to fire the dude up and have nothing...no power on anything. Obvious things that I checked were all connections. I went to put a different battery in and realized that there is a short somewhere because when I go to hook the cables up it sparks like crazy. The only thing I can come up with is maybe the starter? Does the starter have 2 thick gauged cables hooked up to it? I checked all the fuses at the fuse boxes as well... Any ideas would be appreciated! Need help!!!

Hey man, give it some time, its near midnight on a friday night central time. Not exactly prime time for people to be posting.

I believe the starter has two cables, one from the battery and one from the alternator.

check the big 5 wiring:

alternator to starter
starter to battery power
battery ground to engine block
battery ground to chassis
battery power to accessory fuse block

something in your wiring is not right.. check the starter to begin with, maybe you crossed the Alt and Bat wires ?
