Share your thoughts of the K&N lifetime oil filter
Came across K&N lifetime oil filter for most of our 3.8, 4.3 and 5.0 GM engines. I am inclined to stick with the disposable oil filter, but would like to hear others' thoughts on this filter:

Just done a little bit of research. The K&N filter is 5.094 inches tall, the Chevy Blazer stock filter is between 4.44-4.9 inches tall. Now, I know the 4.3l filters will fit our FWD engines, but with the K&N filter being at almost 5.1 inches, will it clear the frame when you remove the cansiter to clean the filter?
Kinda makes you wonder just how many people are going to be dumping oil down the kitchen sink just to clean a filter. And how clean can we get these filters? I would like to see some independant scientific studies done on this before I spend that much money.

I didn't read the write-up you found prior to the original post. What a pain to clean the lifetime filter:

I use the K&N wrench off disposable filters on my 4.3L engines. The 1" wrench off is a difference maker on the Blazer/Bravada/ S10. The way gm designed the off block oil filter, it is super hard to remove the filter on those vehicles. Easy to get to via a door, but hard to actually get typical oil filer wrench to work.
Someone posted here a few years ago the K&N was the same filer as Mobil 1, except it had the wrench off feature.

Oh yea, I just seen how much it costs. $230. It would take about 46 oil changes or 11 years to recoup the cost of that thing.
