Default UNREAL!!!! Damn useless law

Well, heres a funny little story... I was at buddies house the past friday, and well, i went outside when i was leaving (to get in my car), i walk up to my car, and notice something is different... the front end looks cleaner... OH!!! how sweet, my licence plate is gone!!! So, knowing that it was there when i went there, as i looked directly at the damn thing when i locked my doors with the zapper, my only two theories is that someone came by, and stole it off my car, yet left the rear plate completely alone, or it fell off and a big gust of wind picked it up and swooped it somewhere it will never be found again...

I'm leaning towards the first idea, because the other seems unlikely. I know i didnt lose it my self, because i looked right at it when i got out of my car, when i went back out, it was gone.

I called the local police, they said they have never heard of someone stealing licence plates and suggested i was driving wrecklessly, and hit a snowbank?? WHAA!?? i drive like a 80 year old grampa, sorry budy... So basically, they aren't going to do anything about it other than call me if it gets returned. I guess that they are too busy, since this town of 11,000 people, of which 85% are retired seniors is just so full crime...

Well i guess that could be true if someone is such a loser they need to steal someones license plate to feel good about them selves...

Oh well.. It looks better without it, but im curious... Both this car and my previous SSEi (94 Green) say SSE rather than SSEi behind the licence plate bracket. Whats up with that? To cheap to add a single lowercase i ??

Anyway, if you happen to see a plate that says ONTARIO AREE 493 lol please send me a message ... its illegal to drive without a front plate here....

all the sse and ssei bumpers from 92-98 has sse on it. 99 was the year they stopped. herer in chicago, there are many that have stolen plates. just call he dmv and get another set. you did the right thing by calling the police, but try to get the report and you'll be fine.

Most states here require both plates, but many won't bother to pull you over as long as the rear one is there and is current. Though you can bet it will come up if they pull you over for something else...

Could be that someone stole it to use on a stolen car? In any event, if that happened here, I would call the DMV and report it. They'd probably require that you get new plates. I'm sure no one wants to spend that cash if they don't have to, but think about it as better than potentially getting blamed for something stupid that someone does with your plate on the back of their getaway car.

Who steals license plates, honestly?

Do they make you pay for a new one?

Well, thankfully, MTO is going to give me a new set of plates at no cost because of the runaround the cops gave me. I think its BS that there is nothing they can do.. If someone puts my plate on a stolen car, they can easily say i gave it to them... And then I GET the blame also!!

I swear the cops in my town are completely useless, unless you own your own business.

Some people are just so sad they actually resort to stealing licence plates.. If they need a plate, why not just get a 10 day permit?? for 20 bucks more than free, (lol) you get a legal plate for 10 days..

Maybe they exhausted that option, but i hope they get caught and get a nice fine because they touched my bonnie!!!

Also, thats dumb that they couldnt add an i at the end of SSE, it makes people wonder if the car got into a front end collision before.. Well thats what i thought right away when i saw it on my green bonnie. Oh well, i go get my plates later on, and i just got my 05 stickers too... damit

I would call the DMV and see what the procedure is for replacing a missing front plate.

Yep. For those that don't know already, I was a cop. ANd people stole license plates all the time.

They use them on stolen cars, or to trick the police into thinking thier plates are current.

Just hope the loser gets pulled over for something. When his plates come back to your car, he'll have some 'splainin' to do. I would also either call the sops again, or the MTO(?) and make sure the plates are marked as stolen, just in case he don't pull over and they go looking for him by plate number...

Lets also hope that this guy doesn't commit a crime and they get his (you're) plate number. Judging by you're luck you'd be the one pulled over and taken from you're car by gunpoint. I think something similar to this happened to a member here once. The police thought he was driving a stolen vehecle so they held him at gunpoint. Obviously they were mistaken and apologized.

Well.. as long as you have an incident report with the police in regards to your license plate being stolen.. you're pretty much legally safe for them blaming you for anything as long as the incident happened AFTER the report.. unless you get the same plate # again. Then thats iffy.. I would score new plate #.. and go commit a crime with your old plate that you reported lost.. then put on the new plate

I think it cost $75 CAD funny money for new plates.. I had my rear one stolen last summer So I know your pain.. It was there when I got to work *scarborough.. that explains it* didn't bother lookin when I left work.. drove all the way to the girlfriends parents place.. her sister came in and said I was missing my rear license plate.. laughed at her thinkin she was pullin my leg.. and when I was leaving.. noticed that she wasn't lieing.

Well if the MTO is going to replace them for free all the better. Get them replaced ASAP then that way it can't come back to you. I know of a person ( NOT ME, LOL) that stole a plate from a car that was parked in a mall parking lot for ages and put it on his car that was not insured and drove it around like that, till he let someone else drive the car it hit a curb in a parking lot got stuck. I was there and helped him then followed him then behind us was a few cop cars that we didn't see ( unmarked) well they stopped both of us cause they figured we stole the car that he was driving.

Long story short get them replaced and you are safer that way.
