Recently while painting calipers I noticed one of my rotors looked heated and spider cracked. No actual cracks could be felt, however... I could see them easily.

The setup on my car is Bendix ceramic pads and Advance brand Wearever rotors. I had planned on going with the premium rotors due to the ceramic pads. Was a little short on cash and the manager actually said to me that the premium rotors were not needed. He was running this actual setup on his RX7.

6 months later..heated and spider cracks....What do I do?

Let me preface this and say, I spend ALOT of time at Advance and buy tons of parts there. (I've got a commercial acct) Pads are still good, therefore I set out to get new rotors. Went in yesterday and saw the lastest commercial guy. W/O looking at them he was willing to defect them out for me and give me new ones. However he suggested the Bendix premium rotors instead. I picked up the Bendix rotors, paying for them and went home.

During the night, slapped them on and returned my defective wearevers for the refund.

Difference in the thickness of the material where the pad rides on the rotor is visibly noticable and Pat took pics. For some reason I never had the time and too the effort to compare a cheap rotor to a premium rotor. And never had rotor issues like this before either.

Do I notice a difference stopping? No The cheap rotors did work..
Would the cheapies have failed? Yes at somepoint they were going to fail and cause big problems.
Now knowing the difference, I would spend the money for the premium rotors w/o thinking twice. There is a price for safetly and having a higher standard of part on your car. Brakes are clearly one thing that should not be compromised.

i think it is all in the way you drive... one of my cars has the cheap ones, i couldnt get them to warp or anything. but it is said that you get what you pay for! its good to have friends at parts stores!!! i do!

there are things you can skimp on, and things you can't.

brakes and tires are two things you should never skimp on...

I'd like to clarify. I had no issues wtih stopping or warping. Matter of fact I kinda sit back and snicker when each person here says they warp rotors because I had the cheapy specials on there w/o any problems.

While I agree rotors and brake issues can largely be in part to how you drive. I er uh..don't drive gentle at all and have never had a brake/rotor issue. I use the brakes, I don't ride the brakes. Iv'e always felt if you are on the pedal for a long time..then you have the throttle and brake pedals confused.

bill, do you clean the hub mounting surfce before you put the new rotors on?

the difference is remarkable.....i was really impressed in the thickness of the Bendix
