Default K&N Filter Oil

Whats the importance or why does the filter need to be oiled? (K&N RX-4750)

And while we're at it, how often should I re-oil it? It looks kinda dried up right now.

The oil acts as a tacky barrier to help keep the filter/air cleaner longer. Re-oiling depends on how much you drive and your driving conditions (if you drive on dirt/dusty roads). One could realistically go 50,000 miles without having to clean/reoil it.

clean and oil as often as you would replace a paper filter. The process takes 2 days, yes I am anal, one day to dry from the washing and one day for the oil to soak into the filter element.

Bob gave me some pointers at NEBF this year and it was an easy process.

K&N recommends their own oil, but that could be due in part because they want you to buy their products. I'm sure the K&N kit is the best though as it was designed specifically for it.

2 days to clean a K&N?

Try just about 4 hours.

3 options:

1. Keep your stock setup to switch to while cleaning.

2. Pull your filter and clean it at night, letting it air dry overnight, then oil and reinstall the next morning.

3. Pull your filter in the morning and clean it. Let it air dry outside in the sun on a hot driveway for 2-3 hours. Re-oil and install.

Thats what I do, I know how to clean it, but someone said something about cleaing to often might breakdown the material, not sure if thats true or not but im not worried about it, that was back when i just got it and I cleaned it 3 times before oiling it and installing cuz it was muddy

my only question was how often to oil it...

whatever, i think im just gonna go to a FWI here in a while anyway, not sure yet but the thought is definatly crossing my mind

well thanks guys, I did look on the K&N site, i didn't search extensively but i only found a little bit about what the oil does.
