Those fobs are less than 40 bucks on gmpartsdirect.com, I think. That electrical connection in your trunk.....is it on the latch (lower section)? The remote release on your driver'* door will actuate that, also. Then there'* a cable going to a connector in the trunk lid. That'* the 'tamper' line in case someone uses a slide-hammer on your lock assembly. It'll set off the factory security system, and disable the ignition if your car is equipped.

Jr can probably run your RPO codes and tell you if you have these systems.

wilwren, I do have a cable on the trunk lid.The electrical connection is also on the trunk lid where the key goes in.Thats what got me to thinking did this car come factory installed for a remote. I do notice that when I start up there is a yellow security light that briefly lights up. Hopefully I will be getting a owners manual next week. Don't mean to sound dumb but what is the RPO code? Would have been nice to have the original window sticker to see what is actually installed on this vehicle.

AUO = is the RPO for Remote Keyless Entry
The RPO Label is located on the Spare Tire Cover in the trunk on the underside or on the Decklid (trunk lid).
RPO stands for Retail Production Option.

The release for the trunk lid isn't on the lock barrel itself in the trunk lid, it'* on the lower portion. Right down there where you load grandma'* grocery bags. Try something.....

Get in your car and lock the doors using the power door lock. Wait about 5 minutes with the key out and no accessory power. Now MANUALLY unlock the driver'* door only with the little lever by your handle. Open the door. Do you get a honking horn and blinking lights? The factory security system is disarmed by the power door lock circuit if you use your key or the remote to enter the car.

It'* set up this way so if someone breaks a window or jimmies your manual lock some other way, they're not going anywhere. This would be a quick indicator as to whether or not you have the factory security system. Not all cars came with it. Jseabert'* 93SSE, which is pretty well equipped, doesn't have it, but my SSEi does.

I think you'd have a blinking Security light on the dash to clue you in if you did. (Of course, the bulb could have burned out, I guess.)

As someone else said, RPO code AU0 indicates a Keyless Entry system.

If the alarm goes off how do you turn it off, do you need the key fob, or will even the power locks do it... My friend who knows "everything about cars" when he first saw my car automatically said i had fake security system stickers on the side too, no they are for the best paint/rust protection you can get for a car, it clearly says DuPont on it... I don't have a factory security system.. Would it be easy to get one thru GM or something, and just throw it in between two harnesses, or is it more complicated for that.

You can either zap it with the key fob or put the key in the ignition and start the car. Doing either will shut up the alarm.

Whoa; sharp friend you've got there.

Realistically, I wouldn't try to retro-fit a factory security system. You'd go nuts trying to track down every bit of hardware and every wiring alteration needed. I would shop around and get recommendations for a good aftermarket system at this point.
