Default Which Kind of Supercharger Whine do you like the best?

Not sure if this is best in the lounge or general but I'll put it in general

What supercharger whine do you like best? I'm sure you've all at least heard the sound of a series II and a series I 3800 here and if you have not you'd best be off to the In-Motion section.

The high pitched squeal of the M62 or the more mature refined whine of the M90 on the newer cars?

Personally I am torn, but the sound of a M90 with a 3.2" pulley is dang good music to the ears.

Passenger Reactions:

M62 = "I think your car has a bad belt or something"...."Nice Turbo you got in there"

M90 = "your car sounds cool"...."why does your engine make that noise?"

To me,they both have their own sound of sweetness but throw a FWI on an M90 with a 3.4 and screaming takes on a whole new meaning

Most members here have yet to hear a high-pitched M62 with a FWI. It'* a unique combination.

I love the M62 whine. A cone filter intake alone made mine sound pretty nice.

But so far I'd have to say an Gen V with an 3.4, FWI and cam sounds pretty amazing.

I want to hear Bill (Wren'*) first-hand someday too.

That doesn't sound like a "torn" statement. Who likes a high pitched squeel?

I like my M62.

I agree. Squeal is hardly a proper word for the sound. But as you can see, Hans' loyalties are shifting.

I describe the sound of an M62 as being very similar to an Indy Car gearbox, and for good reason. The sound is the same because the gear design is so similar. It'* the gears you hear, not the rotors.

The M62 can be heard somewhat with a stock airbox, but a CAI and FWI can be very different animals as well. Pulley size changes on my car don't change the volume, only the pitch of the sound.

A 2.0" has been mistaken on my car for a turbo when I'm at WOT. Including at Woodburn dragstrip. But even with a 2.5" pulley on there for tuning, and the FWI, it'* remarkably 'more obvious' than last year with the CAI and 2.0" pulley.

You don't NEED to gut your airbox, and an INTENSE FWI will work just fine. I have one in my 93 SSEi right now. But that'* best for another topic. Feel free to start one.

I find both to be very pleasing. I do miss the low end grunt produced with the M62 in conjunction with the Series I 3800.

Too bad I can't add my own opinion.
