My supercharged engine idles just fine with the MAF screen removed.
Yes I agree with Tamara. It does increase the sound of the intake on cold start-up. A loud hissing sound if the hood is open and slightly muted sucking sound with it closed.
It definitely improved the performance a noticeable amount (5 hp ?) and sounds cool.
You like sucking sounds too Tamara ?
Get a supercharger. It reeeeally sucks.

I still get that sucky sucky sounds on start up plus i get a high pitched whining from under the hood. I actually think i have too much air going in maybe. I get a studder from my car when i push the gas slightly while i am moving, esp at low speed like 20-30 mph. I dont know what causes it other than the intake since it started after i put it on. Maybe it needs to be shorter.

okay for the idling issue....it messed mine up when I removed my maf screen. you guys must be lucky! it does actually give a little power and when you are a lead foot you can hear the air going into the throttle body. kinda cool but I think it'* a little too much.

I think I will have to gut that air box as much as possible....
Gutting may be the way to go tho

hwo are you guys gutting the air boxes on your 91 and below 3800'*? I looked at mine this weekend and you would have to break up all the plastic inside of it. I need to know for SURE that this makes a nice difference in the car and that it won't lower the gas mileage or anything. (and of course not hurt the car at all.)

I don't know about the Series I engines, but on the series II, it actually RAISED my gas milage. I was going about 680-700kms on a full tank of gas, and that was hwy / city driving mixed. I guess I'm lucky like some people say ....Hollywood himself is practically bullet proof lol! *knock on wood*

I'm going to explore this item furthur before I make my decisions. BuzzbomberLE did it, and Drifter and I might have a look this summer.
Short RAM intake is the optimal way to go..obviously

You should price out a replacement OEM air box.
I stored mine for a quick swap.
Get yourself a pipe and cone filter....and shield it from the heat....you won't regret it.
BIG Difference. And that sound.
Pass me a little cheese to go with that WHIIIIIIIIIIIIINE. mmmmmmmmmmm
